Occupation Forces Two Citizens to Demolish Their Homes Themselves in Misharifa to Avoid Hefty Fines

SadaNews - Last night, Israeli occupation authorities forced the owners of two houses in the village of Misharifa in the Wadi Ara area to demolish them themselves, in order to avoid imposing hefty financial fines by the local planning and building authorities if the demolition were carried out by Israeli authorities using heavy machinery and bulldozers, under the pretext of unauthorized construction.

This action comes despite the fact that the houses have been occupied by family members for decades, highlighting the suffering of the residents in facing demolition policies and the procedures related to licensing issues.

In this context, the processes of demolishing houses, including "self-demolition," in Arab towns within Israel fall within a broader context of a chronic planning and structural crisis. For decades, these towns have suffered from a severe shortage of approved structural plans and limited building areas designated for natural expansion, forcing thousands of families to build without official permits as a nearly sole option to secure housing.

Conversely, the planning and building authorities tighten their monitoring measures and issue demolition orders and high fines for unauthorized homes. Given the costs of official demolition, which may include bulldozer fees and accompanying forces in addition to the fines, many homeowners are compelled to carry out self-demolition to reduce financial losses.

This phenomenon has worsened in recent years with the tightening of law enforcement, especially after legal amendments that enhanced enforcement powers and increased the value of fines.

Specialists and activists believe that the problem is not limited to individual violations but reflects a deep gap in planning policies and providing suitable housing solutions for the Arab community, contrasted with the slow processes of approving plans and expanding areas of influence.
