Trump: I Do Not Wish to Extend the Ceasefire with Iran

SadaNews - Ahead of the anticipated second round of negotiations, U.S. President Donald Trump announced today, Tuesday, that he does not wish to extend the ceasefire with Iran, emphasizing that the United States is in a strong negotiating position with Iran and that it will ultimately reach a "great deal."

In an interview with CNBC, Trump praised the naval blockade on Iran, adding: We have destroyed Iran's fleet and air forces and killed its leaders.

Regarding a return to war, Trump stated: I and the military are ready for military intervention against Iran and I do not wish to extend the truce as we have no time.

Previously, the U.S. president accused Iran of "violating the ceasefire several times."

This came in a brief post on his official page on the "Truth Social" platform, without mentioning any further details.

Earlier, the U.S. president stressed that "Iran will negotiate or it will face unprecedented problems."

Trump said during a phone interview on The John Fredericks Show: "I hope the Iranians reach a fair agreement and rebuild their country."

He added: "We have done a great job in Iran, and we will finish the matter, and everyone will be happy," noting that the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports costs Tehran millions daily.

At the same time, he reiterated that the United States will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

For her part, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt said on Tuesday that the United States is closer than ever to reaching an agreement with Iran despite ongoing uncertainty about a new round of talks.

Levitt stated in an interview with Fox News: "The United States is closer tonight than ever to reaching a truly good deal, unlike the disastrous agreement signed by Barack Hussein Obama, as we are now," referring to the 2015 nuclear agreement that President Donald Trump later repealed.

She said that the United States is approaching an agreement, but added that President Trump has several options if no agreement is reached, and he will not hesitate to use them, indicating that he has previously proven that he follows through on his words.
