Election Committee: Election campaigning begins on April 10, and any activities before that are against the law
SadaNews - The Central Elections Commission announced that the campaigning period for the local elections will begin on April 10 and last until April 23, confirming that any form of electoral campaigning before this date is considered unlawful.
The committee stated that it has observed some instances of early electoral campaigning, particularly through social media or WhatsApp groups, considering such actions to be illegal. It emphasized the necessity for lists and candidates to adhere to the regulations and stipulations of electoral campaigning as prescribed by law.
The committee clarified that respecting the rules of electoral campaigning, including timing, is a professional, ethical, and legal obligation for every list and candidate, asserting that the specified campaigning period of 14 days is sufficient for candidates to engage with voters and present their electoral programs.
It added that electoral campaigning activities are diverse and varied, and each list or candidate has the right to organize activities they deem appropriate and lawful during the designated legal period.
Previously, the committee published a statement clarifying the spending limits for electoral campaigning and shared guidelines and regulations regarding campaigning on its website, urging citizens and candidates to review them and follow its social media pages, as the committee is currently focusing on clarifying the rules governing electoral campaigning.
