Trump: I hope the Iranians negotiate something acceptable

SadaNews - US President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that Tehran "is speaking seriously to Washington," while Iranian President Masoud Bazchikan stated that war would not be in the interest of either side or the Middle East, amid intense diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.

Reuters quoted Trump as saying that he does not know if negotiations with Tehran will lead to an agreement, but he pointed out that the Iranians are serious in their talks with the United States.

The US president added that Washington hopes Iran will negotiate "on something acceptable," noting, "If we can negotiate a convincing agreement that leads to Iran not having a nuclear weapon, then that should be achieved."

He also reiterated that US warships are heading towards Iran, emphasizing, "We have big, powerful ships sailing towards Iran."

On Saturday, Trump told Fox News that Tehran "is talking to us, and we will see if we can do something, otherwise we will see what happens." He also reiterated that "we have a large fleet heading there."

He added, "They are negotiating," referring to the Iranians, noting that Washington had not informed its allies in the region of specific plans to strike Iran.

Trump had said on Friday that he expects Iran to seek to negotiate an agreement regarding its nuclear and missile programs instead of facing US military action.
