Trump Wants Countries to Pay One Billion Dollars to Stay in the Peace Council
SadaNews - Bloomberg reported, citing a draft charter, that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is demanding countries pay one billion dollars to remain in the peace council he chairs.
The report stated that U.S. President Donald Trump will initially chair the council, and each member state will have a membership duration not exceeding 3 years from the date this charter comes into effect, which can be renewed at the president's discretion.
Reuters has not yet been able to verify the accuracy of the report.
The White House described the report as "misleading" and confirmed that there are no minimum membership fees to join the "Peace Council."
It stated in a release, "This simply grants permanent membership to partner countries that demonstrate a firm commitment to peace, security, and prosperity."
The U.S. State Department responded to Reuters' inquiry on this matter by referencing previous social media posts about the council published by Trump and his special envoy Steve Witkoff, which did not mention this figure.
