Trump: We are considering very strong options regarding Iran and will make a decision
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump said early this morning, Monday, that he is considering a range of responses to the escalating unrest in Iran, including potential military options, as protests continue to sweep the country.
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One in response to a question about whether Iran had crossed the red line he previously established regarding the killing of protesters: "It seems they have started to do that," adding, "We are taking this very seriously, the military is monitoring it, and we are studying some very strong options. We will make a decision."
Trump confirmed that the United States has very strong options regarding Iran, and added, "We will respond firmly to any actions, and we will strike Iran in a way they have never seen before if they use violence against the protesters."
He mentioned that they are currently working to provide the Iranians with internet access, and that he discussed this with Elon Musk.
A White House official mentioned that President Trump was briefed on a range of options for conducting military strikes in Iran, but legislators from both the Republican and Democratic parties questioned whether a military option is the best approach, as Israel declares a state of maximum alert in anticipation of any possible U.S. intervention in Iran.
The official stated that President Trump was briefed on a range of options for launching military strikes in Iran, including against civilian sites, and he is seriously considering issuing an authorization for a military attack on Iran.
In this context, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump will receive a briefing next Tuesday regarding specific options to respond to the protests in Iran.
The newspaper clarified that the meeting will involve senior administration officials to discuss the next steps, which may include boosting anti-government sources online, launching covert cyber strikes against Iranian military and civilian sites, imposing further sanctions on the regime, and conducting military strikes.
