Israel is on the verge of postponing its extensive attack in Lebanon due to events in Iran

SadaNews translation - An Israeli official revealed on Friday that Tel Aviv is considering the possibility of postponing a large-scale attack against Lebanon due to the ongoing events in Iran.

The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper quoted the official as saying, as translated by SadaNews, "We have every reason to launch a broad operation in Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah, but there are fears that a large-scale conflict there at this time could divert global public attention from protests in Iran."

The source added: "Hezbollah is arming itself and rebuilding its strength... Funds are being transported from Tehran to Hezbollah via Turkey, and Lebanon does not prevent the entry of Iranian Quds Force elements who operate on its soil to assist Hezbollah in rebuilding its ranks, some of whom work under diplomatic cover."

The Hebrew newspaper states that Hezbollah still has a large army, but in light of ongoing developments, Israel has begun to reassess its calculations.

Estimates in Israel indicate that the Israeli army will continue its attacks in southern Lebanon at an accelerated pace and will intensify its operations, but it does not expect there to be a large-scale attack.

The same source said: "The unrest in Iran could develop into a coup against the government, or it may not develop, but in either case, Israel is taking utmost caution and is not intervening, so as not to cause severe damage to what is happening, because the protests in Iran also affect the Lebanese arena."
