Millions of Anti-Trump Protesters to Demonstrate Across America on Saturday
SadaNews - From New York to San Francisco, and from Chicago to Atlanta, millions of demonstrators will take to the streets across the United States on Saturday to protest the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump and "defend democracy," responding to a call from the "No Kings" movement, according to the "Agence France-Presse".
This will be the second nationwide day of protest since mid-June when this coalition opposing the Republican billionaire, which includes around a hundred organizations, organized a rally involving millions of people.
This was the largest protest movement against Trump since he returned to the White House in January.
Four months after the first movement, organizers expect "more than 2,600" protests, "with millions of people expected to participate".
During a video press conference held on Thursday, Deirdre Schifeling, a leader in the "American Civil Liberties Union", an organization dedicated to defending civil rights, said, "Millions of Americans will peacefully protest on Saturday to tell the Trump administration that we are a country where people are equal, a country where the laws apply to everyone, a country of law and democracy".
She added, "In the face of abuses of power by Donald Trump and his allies... we will not allow ourselves to be silenced".
For her part, Leah Greenberg, co-founder of the "Indivisible" group, recounted the violations, stating, "They are sending the National Guard to American cities. They are terrorizing our immigrant friends and neighbors. They are prosecuting their political opponents".
She added, "This is classic authoritarianism: threatening, slandering, lying, and intimidating people to subdue them, but we will not submit to intimidation. We will not be fooled. And we will not kneel".
Likewise, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten, emphasized that it is a "moral obligation to fight" to "ensure... that democracy moves forward, not backward".
In addition to major cities, gathering points are set to take place across the country, even in neighboring Canada, in Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa.
