Statistics: 101 Victims from Traffic Accidents During 2025 in the Occupied Territories
SadaNews - According to data and statistics published by the National Road Safety Authority in the country, the number of victims from road accidents since the beginning of this year 2025 has reached 101 victims, the latest of whom is Said Muhammad Watad (62 years old) from the town of Jatt al-Mu'tala, who lost his life last Wednesday evening in a traffic accident that occurred in front of his store in the city of Baqa al-Gharbiyye.
Details indicate that Watad was severely injured after being hit by a car while standing in front of his store. Ambulance crews were called to the scene, and the medical team performed advanced resuscitation operations in an attempt to save his life; however, doctors had to declare his death in the hospital due to his severe injuries.
The occupying police claimed that they had opened an investigation file into the circumstances of the accident.
A state of sadness and grief prevailed in Jatt and Baqa al-Gharbiyye following the news of Said Watad's death, with whom the locals had good relations. Many citizens from the two towns flocked to the deceased's home to offer condolences and stand by the family in their painful loss.
Pedestrians Make Up a Third of Road Accident Victims
In this context, pedestrians, most of whom are children and the elderly, constitute about a third of road accident victims in the country. Additionally, about a third of pedestrian injuries in road accidents occur at pedestrian crossings. It is necessary to work to reduce pedestrian injuries in road accidents by raising awareness and creating a supportive environment to change the behaviors of both drivers and pedestrians.
Repeated Warnings Without Response
Despite warnings from the "National Road Safety Authority" and the holding of emergency sessions in the Knesset's Economic Committee, no concrete steps have yet been taken to stop the toll on the roads.
The authority had warned at the end of 2024 that "eventually we will reach over 500 victims, and they will call it success."
