North Korean Leader Promises to Build a "Socialist Paradise" in His Country
SadaNews - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un praised what he called his country’s struggle against a military threat led by the United States, and vowed to turn North Korea into the "best socialist paradise in the world" during his speech at the state anniversary celebrations attended by senior foreign dignitaries from China, Russia, and others.
Kim’s speech comes on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party, which falls on this Friday. He is seeking to strengthen an anti-Western partnership with other countries while also indicating his interest in resuming diplomacy with the United States, according to the Associated Press.
A military display may highlight North Korea’s anniversary events, expected to take place later today in a square in the capital, Pyongyang, where Kim is likely to stand alongside leaders from China, Russia, and others to watch a showcase of some of the latest and most advanced weapons targeting the United States and its allies.
Kim spoke sharply about the United States and promised to build a "socialist paradise." In a speech delivered on Thursday at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, in front of tens of thousands of spectators, Kim stated that North Korea strives to develop both nuclear weapons and the economy simultaneously to counter the "increasing nuclear war threats from American imperialists," according to state media.
Kim said, "Our Party and government continue to confront the fierce political and military maneuvers of our adversaries by following tougher policies, adhering to established principles, and taking bold and unwavering countermeasures." This strongly reinforces the growth of the anti-war and anti-hegemony progressive camp.
Kim also expressed confidence in overcoming difficulties and making significant improvements to the economy in the near future. He said, "I will undoubtedly transform this country into a more prosperous and beautiful land, the best socialist paradise in the world."
Senior foreign dignitaries attended the celebration, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and General Secretary of the Communist Party, To Lam. Official media released images of Kim waving between Li Qiang and To Lam, while fireworks lit up the sky.
Kim met separately with Li Qiang and To Lam for discussions on enhancing relations and also met with one of his senior deputies, Jo Yong Won, and Medvedev.
