Young worker dies in an industrial accident in Be'er Sheva in the Negev region

SadaNews - The young man Yazeed Atef Abu Qiyan from the village of Hura lost his life while working today, Sunday, in one of the factories at the "Emeq Sara" industrial zone in the city of Be'er Sheva in the Negev region.

The occupying police claimed that they have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident and notified the Ministry of Economy (Industry, Trade and Labor) as required.

A mood of sadness and distress prevailed after the news spread in the town, and a number of residents gathered at the deceased's home to console his family and stand by them in their painful tragedy.

58 workers have died in workplace accidents since the beginning of the year

Available data and statistics indicate that the number of workers who have lost their lives in various workplace accidents that have occurred in the country since the beginning of this year 2025 until today has reached 58, along with 553 workers injured with varying degrees of wounds.

For comparison, the number of victims in the previous year 2024 was 69, most of whom were Arab and foreign workers, while 83 deaths were recorded in 2023, of which 48 were in the construction sector, which accounts for more than half of workplace accident victims.

Data indicates that the main causes of these accidents include falls from heights and falling heavy objects, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen safety measures at work sites.

In a related context, the "Workers' Address" organization mentioned that "the alarming data indicates that the decline in the workplace accident index last year 2024 was deceptive or illusory, resulting from the decline in economic activity following the war on Gaza, and the abandonment of Palestinian workers from the construction sector. It is clear that the workers, who constitute 'the weakest link' in the Israeli economy, are the most affected group, and they are the ones paying the price for the problematic situation in construction sites and failures in providing safety means in Israel."

The organization appealed to the Israeli Minister of Labor to "address the issue radically, by establishing a national authority for occupational safety and health, and developing a national plan to eliminate the problem of workplace accidents. Workers who go out to earn their living should not return home in coffins and dead boxes."
