Iraq: About 50 Killed in Fire at Shopping Center
SadaNews - Wasit Governor Muhammad Jamil Al-Miyahi announced today, Thursday, that about 50 people were killed in a fire at a shopping center in the city of Kut in eastern Iraq.
Al-Miyahi said in a statement on Facebook: "A tragedy and disaster have befallen us.. My dear people of Kut and all of Wasit, we mourn a good group of our province's sons, as we have lost nearly 50 individuals, including men, women, and children, in the unfortunate fire incident at the ill-fated hypermarket mall.. There is no power and no strength except with God, the Most High, the Great."
He added: "We announce three days of mourning for the souls lost in the tragedy of the hypermarket mall fire in Kut. We assure the families of the innocent victims that we will not be lenient with those who were directly or indirectly responsible for this incident, which is not without circumstances. We will announce to the public within 48 hours the preliminary results of the investigation. Legal actions have also been filed against the building owner, the mall owner, and anyone related to this matter."
