British-Palestinian Meeting in Hebron to Discuss the Financial Crisis's Impact on the Private Sector
SadaNews - Sir Michael Barber, the British Special Envoy for Governance Affairs in the Palestinian Authority, met with private sector leaders in the city of Hebron to directly hear about the impact of the financial crisis on the local economy and public services, and to discuss practical ways forward.
The meeting was organized by the "Export" program in cooperation with the British Consulate General, bringing together the Chairman of the Board of the Union of Chambers of Commerce and prominent businessmen in Hebron with Sir Michael Barber. Both parties discussed the challenges faced by the private sector and the impact of the Palestinian Authority's financial crisis on the performance of economic institutions and public services, in addition to opportunities for collaboration to improve the business environment and enhance financial stability.
Palestine is experiencing a severe economic crisis due to a decline in international support, ongoing Israeli restrictions, and sluggish local growth, which has led to a significant budget deficit in the Palestinian Authority. This deficit has negatively affected the government's ability to pay salaries and provide essential services, as well as directly impacting the private sector, which is suffering from reduced liquidity, declining investments, and difficulties accessing markets.
Businessmen hope that international meetings will help stimulate external support and provide practical solutions to alleviate the severity of the crisis.
