The National Council Calls for Accountability of the Occupation and Protection of UNRWA at the Mediterranean Parliamentary Union
SadaNews - The Palestinian National Council participated in the 10th summit of the Presidents of the Parliaments of the Mediterranean Union and the 19th general session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union, hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt on July 4 and 5, confirming the necessity of moving from condemnation to taking practical actions to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people.
The delegation of the Palestinian National Council included Shafik Al-Tluli, Amaal Hamad, and Ibrahim Abu Al-Naja.
During the meetings of the permanent committees and the general session, the members of the delegation emphasized the importance of defending the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and rejecting Israeli legislation targeting its work. They also demanded an end to the aggression on the Gaza Strip, providing protection for civilians, and ensuring unhindered access to humanitarian aid.
Al-Tluli emphasized in his intervention before the Committee on Political Affairs, Security, and Human Rights the necessity of activating parliamentary diplomacy to hold the Israeli occupation accountable. The Palestinian delegation also presented proposals to develop the work of the Parliamentary Assembly, which included the establishment of specialized committees concerned with the Palestinian issue, humanitarian files, and reconstruction efforts.
During the meetings of the Committee on Women's Affairs, Hamad reviewed the difficult humanitarian conditions faced by Palestinian women in light of the aggression, calling for international protection for Palestinian women and accountability for the crimes committed against women and children.
For his part, Ibrahim Abu Al-Naja, in his speech before the general session, affirmed the importance of continuing to support and protect the "UNRWA," as it is a fundamental pillar in providing services to Palestinian refugees and preserving their rights.
The assembly's proceedings witnessed widespread confirmation of support for Palestinian rights, as the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Union, MP Muhammad Abu Al-Einain, announced the assembly's continued support for the "UNRWA" and its adherence to the two-state solution as the path to achieving peace.
The Palestinian National Council delegation, in the presence of the Director of Palestine TV in Cairo, director Faik Jarada, honored Romanian MP Diana Stoeica in appreciation of her supportive positions for the Palestinian people and their just cause.
At the conclusion of the meetings, the delegation of the National Council met with MP Muhammad Abu Al-Einain, conveying the greetings of the President of the Palestinian National Council, Ruhi Fatouh, and the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, appreciating his efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause during his presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Union, before concluding the assembly’s work with a commemorative photo of the participants.
