Fass Morocco crowned Moroccan league champions after 41 years
SadaNews - Fas Morocco has won the Moroccan Professional Football League title for the first time in 41 years, after beating their guest Olympic Dcheira 2-0, on Sunday, in the final round of the competition, securing a thrilling race for the title that lasted until the last moment.
All matches of the final round were held at the same time, due to the ongoing competition among several teams for the championship.
The title race was decided in the final round
Fas Morocco raised its tally to 59 points, advancing two points ahead of Nahdat Berkane, who achieved an away victory against Hassania Agadir by 3-1, and three points ahead of Raja Casablanca, who also won against their host Olympic Safi 2-0.
Numerical superiority decided the match
The first half of the match between Fas Morocco and Olympic Dcheira ended in a goalless draw, despite the guests finishing the match with ten players after Yassin Boughaz was sent off in the final minutes of the first half for a rough challenge on Adel Rahili.
The home team quickly capitalized on the numerical advantage, as Anas Attaari opened the scoring in the 51st minute after a pass from Adam Brique inside the penalty area, before Ayman Al-Shabani doubled the score with a header following a cross from a free kick taken by Hamza Afssal.
A historic title after four decades
Fas Morocco has returned the league title to its cabinet after a 41-year absence, as the team's last victory in the competition dates back to the 1984-1985 season.
Relegation for Dcheira and Safi... and the survival playoff
On the other hand, Olympic Dcheira and Olympic Safi were relegated to the second division after finishing in the fifteenth and sixteenth positions respectively.
Union Touarga and Yacoub Mansour will play playoff matches against the teams finishing third and fourth in the second division, to determine survival in the professional league.
Results of the final round
The rest of the matches in the round saw a goalless draw between Royal Army and Nahdat Zemamra, while Al-Fath lost at home to Yacoub Mansour by a goal to nil.
Hassania Agadir also drew with Marrakech's Kawkab (1-1), while Wydad AC lost at home to Union Touarga (2-1), finishing the season in fifth place with 43 points, far from the top four.
In the last matches of the round, Ittihad Tanger defeated their guest Meknassi Club 2-1.
