Iranian Foreign Ministry: We are Free to Manage Our Frozen Funds
SadaNews - The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Tehran will handle its frozen funds, which will be released soon, with complete freedom, emphasizing that there are no restrictions on how to use these funds. It clarified that the exemptions related to the sale of Iranian oil have come into effect since yesterday, considering this step as a boost to the country's ability to withstand economic pressures.
In the context of recent negotiations, the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied holding any meeting with the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Switzerland, asserting that there are no plans for inspections of the nuclear facilities that were bombed. Tehran also expressed disappointment towards some countries in the region that supported the IAEA’s Board of Governors' decision against it, considering that this position does not serve regional stability.
The ministry added that the existing understanding with international parties is based on respect and commitment to reality, warning that any arrogant rhetoric could undermine the agreement process. It pointed out that the Europeans are the ones who have marginalized their role in dealing with Iran, and if they wish to restore their presence in international issues, they need to change their approach.
Regarding the quadrilateral meeting held in Switzerland on Sunday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry clarified that there had been no direct communication with the Americans afterward, and that the exchange of messages occurred through intermediaries. It confirmed that the cessation of assaults on Lebanon is an integral part of the memorandum of understanding, and that Washington's commitment to this clause is clear, noting the agreement on a joint mechanism involving Iran, Qatar, Pakistan, the U.S., and Lebanon to prevent escalation and monitor the implementation of the ceasefire.
As for the nuclear file and sanctions, the ministry stated that these issues were not discussed in detail during the negotiations in Switzerland, but were generally mentioned, with discussions expected to occur within 60 days of signing the memorandum of understanding. It also announced the formation of a specialized working group to follow up on the implementation of the agreement with the United States.
On another note, the Foreign Ministry indicated that coordination regarding the Strait of Hormuz will be raised during the visit of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf to Oman, considering that the two countries are the coastal states of this vital strait.
