Switzerland: US-Iran Talks Scheduled for Friday

SadaNews - The Swiss government announced on Thursday that preliminary talks between the United States and Iran are set to take place at the Borgenstock mountain resort on Friday, following the signing of a ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington.

It stated, "So far, the plan still involves holding a meeting between the United States and Iran, along with mediators Pakistan and Qatar and other concerned countries, on Friday at Borgenstock to conduct initial negotiations on the implementation of the agreement."

The Swiss Foreign Ministry stated in a statement: "No additional information is currently available regarding the agenda and details of this meeting."

White House Chief of Staff Suzy Wiles said the next sixty days will be filled with challenges as work begins on technical files and detailed issues related to the understanding between Washington and Tehran.

Wiles explained in a post on the platform "X" that the signing of the memorandum of understanding represents "a significant step forward" not only for the United States but also for the international community, referring to the importance of the agreement in reducing tensions between the two countries.

She added that President Donald Trump signed the document during his visit to France, which included a series of bilateral meetings and official encounters, culminating in a formal dinner at the Palace of Versailles in conjunction with the celebration of his eightieth birthday.

She also published a photo of Trump signing the memorandum of understanding, confirming that the next phase will focus on completing technical discussions and reaching agreements on outstanding issues and implementation mechanisms.

The launching of these talks follows the announcement of a framework agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at paving the way for broader negotiations that include a number of contentious issues, foremost among them the Iranian nuclear program and the security arrangements related to de-escalation between the two sides.
