Putin and Trump Hold Extended Phone Conversation for Over an Hour and a Half
SadaNews - Russian presidential aide for international affairs Yuri Ushakov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with his American counterpart Donald Trump, which was the twelfth since he returned to the White House.
Ushakov stated: "A phone conversation took place between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of the United States Donald Trump. This conversation lasted more than an hour and a half," pointing out that the discussion that took place in the evening between Putin and Trump was practical and frank, adding: "The communication between the two presidents was straightforward and practical."
Ushakov noted that during the conversation, Putin expressed supportive words to his American counterpart in light of the assassination attempt, condemning the crime strongly, saying: "Putin took the initiative to express words of support for President Trump regarding the assassination attempt he faced on April 25 at the Washington Hilton hotel. Fortunately, Trump himself, his wife, nor anyone around him was injured. The assailant was quickly neutralized by the security service," Ushakov added that the Russian president condemned the crime strongly, "emphasizing that no form of violence motivated by political motives is acceptable."
The two presidents discussed the prospects of mutually beneficial projects in economy and energy, where Ushakov said: "During the discussion of Russian-American relations, both sides talked about the great prospects for mutually beneficial projects in the economy and energy. In fact, a number of large economic initiatives, as mentioned by the presidents, are being concretely discussed among representatives of our countries."
Putin confirmed during the conversation that the goals of the special military operation would be achieved, but Moscow prefers that it occurs through negotiations, Ushakov explained: "Our president once again confirmed that the objectives of the special military operation will be achieved in any case. Of course, we prefer that this be the result of a negotiating process."
Putin informed Trump of his readiness to declare a ceasefire during the Victory Day celebrations, and Ushakov said: "In this context, Putin informed his American counterpart of his readiness to declare a ceasefire also during the Victory Day celebrations. Trump actively supported this initiative, pointing out that the holiday represents our common victory over Nazism in World War II."
Putin conveyed to Trump the purely terrorist methods of the Kyiv regime in attacking civilian facilities, where Ushakov said: "The Russian president directly stated that Kyiv is clearly resorting to terrorist methods, by targeting purely civilian facilities on Russian territory. Our president reiterated that the objectives of the special military operation will be achieved in any case."
During the conversation, Putin indicated that Volodymyr Zelensky must agree to the known proposals previously put forward for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine through diplomacy, Ushakov conveyed the essence of the leaders' conversation saying: "Of course, we prefer achieving the objectives of the special military operation and the peaceful settlement as a result of a negotiating process, which requires Zelensky to respond positively to the known proposals that have been repeatedly presented, including by the American side."
Putin also conveyed his wishes to Trump regarding his wife Melania Trump's birthday, commending her efforts in reuniting Russian and Ukrainian children with their families, where Ushakov said: "Greetings were conveyed to Melania Trump, and her contribution and efforts in reuniting Russian and Ukrainian children with their families were praised."
Putin informed Trump that since the beginning of 2025, Moscow has handed over more than 20,000 bodies of the dead to Kyiv, while receiving slightly over 500 bodies, Ushakov said: "It was mentioned that Russia has delivered to Ukraine since the beginning of 2025 more than 20,000 bodies of the dead, while they have delivered to us slightly over 500 bodies."
Trump assured Putin that a deal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine is imminent, and Ushakov said: "Donald Trump believes that an agreement that will put an end to the conflict in Ukraine is imminent." In the context of the Ukrainian settlement, Ushakov noted that "the American president emphasized the importance of stopping combat operations as soon as possible, as well as his willingness to provide all assistance to achieve that. His trusted people will continue communications with both Moscow and Kyiv."
The two presidents, Putin and Trump, agreed to continue communications, both personally and at the level of their aides, Ushakov said: "The two presidents agreed to continue supporting communications, whether personal or at the level of their aides and representatives. The presidents warmly invited each other and wished each other all the best."
It is noteworthy that the previous phone conversation between the two leaders took place on March 9, and this is the twelfth conversation between Putin and Trump since the latter returned to the White House in early 2025.
