Trump Meets with Top Executives from Oil Companies to Discuss the Implications of Sanctions on Iran
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump and several of his top aides at the White House met on Tuesday with executives from the energy sector, where they discussed the continued pressure on oil prices amid the war with Iran, along with other issues, according to a White House official speaking to CNN.
A White House official told "Reuters" that Trump and oil company officials discussed steps to maintain the sanctions imposed on Iran for months, if necessary.
The meeting was attended by White House Chief of Staff Suzy Wiles, Treasury Secretary Scott Pruitt, special envoy Steve Winokur, and the President's son-in-law Jared Kushner. Among the attendees was Chevron CEO Mike Wirth, according to CNN.
An American official stated that most attendees were from shipping and trading companies, adding that those present at the meeting praised the U.S. sanctions on Iran, urged Trump to maintain them, and requested more exemptions under the Jones Act.
Last week, the President granted a 90-day extension for the Jones Act exemptions, facilitating the transportation of oil, gas, and other goods within the United States.
