Qatar: We are in contact with all parties regarding Islamabad negotiations
SadaNews - The spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Al-Ansari, stated that the State of Qatar is in contact with all parties, including the United States, regarding the Islamabad negotiations.
He added during a press conference today, Tuesday, that communications are ongoing with the Pakistani side to reach a peaceful resolution through negotiations.
The United States and Iran are exchanging threats of returning to war as the deadline for the ceasefire approaches on Wednesday, amid ongoing doubts about the possibility of resuming negotiations between them in Islamabad.
Tehran had not confirmed its participation in the Pakistan negotiations by Tuesday afternoon.
Al-Ansari indicated that if the Islamabad negotiations between Washington and Tehran do not reach an agreement, Qatar supports extending the ceasefire until a peaceful resolution is achieved.
He expressed hope for the success of these negotiations, saying: "We do not want the Washington-Tehran negotiations to fail; we are monitoring the situation and supporting Pakistan's efforts in this regard."
He added that there can be a return to the negotiating parties regarding the deadline for the ceasefire in the region.
Al-Ansari stated that the State of Qatar is also in contact with international parties and partners to protect navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas typically pass.
He continued that the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz transforms the crisis from a regional to an international one, emphasizing that solving the strait's crisis is not the responsibility of a single state but of all countries.
The United States continues to blockade Iranian ports, while Iran lifted the blockade it imposed on maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz but then reclosed it again.
On April 8, the U.S. and Iran announced a temporary ceasefire for two weeks, mediated by Pakistan, in preparation for broader negotiations aimed at ending the war that erupted on February 28, during which the first round of negotiations in Islamabad ended without a final agreement.
