The Public Prosecution and the Swiss NGO "Humanity" Sign Cooperation Agreement to Enhance the Child Justice System in Palestine
SadaNews - The Attorney General, Consultant Akram Al-Khatib, and the Swiss NGO Humanity's Country Director, Mr. Thomas Bocour, today signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at enhancing and developing the justice system in Palestine, ensuring its comprehensive response to the needs of children and protecting their rights. The signing ceremony was attended by the Head of the Juvenile Protection Prosecution, Mr. Thaer Khalil, the Program Director in Palestine, Dr. Fleticia Saleh, Child Justice Specialist Ms. Mona Abu Suneina, and Project Manager Ms. Yusra Shakhtour.
During the signing ceremony, the Attorney General expressed his appreciation for the professional role played by the NGO, praising the existing cooperation path and emphasizing that this memorandum constitutes a qualitative step in deepening institutional partnership and developing the child justice system to achieve the best interest of the child and establish a protective legal environment that enhances their positive integration into society. He explained that the Palestinian Public Prosecution, in addition to its national role, has started to lead an active regional path in the field of child justice based on exchanging experiences and developing practical, applicable models. He pointed out that this path is steadily moving towards international presence, given the qualitative professional development accumulated by the Palestinian experience that makes it a model for sharing and generalization, thus enhancing Palestine's position as an influential partner in shaping and developing child justice policies regionally and internationally.
For his part, Mr. Thomas Bocour emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership with the Palestinian Public Prosecution, stressing its pivotal role in protecting children's rights, establishing a restorative justice approach, and reinforcing the rule of law. He also expressed his pride in the existing cooperation, indicating that the experience of the Public Prosecution in the area of child justice represents an advanced model that is witnessing remarkable development, and this collaboration comes as part of a shared commitment to develop work mechanisms and achieve tangible results that contribute to protecting children and enhancing their opportunities for a dignified and safe life.
It is noteworthy that this memorandum will translate into a series of joint programs and activities, including capacity building for personnel working in the justice sector and developing relevant legal and procedural tools concerning child justice, in line with national priorities aimed at enhancing the rule of law and protecting the most vulnerable groups.
