Qatar Declares Military and Security Attachés at Iranian Embassy "Unwanted"
SadaNews - The State of Qatar has declared that the military and security attachés at the Iranian embassy and those working in the attachés are "unwanted persons," following repeated Iranian targeting of Qatari territories.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Wednesday evening that it has delivered an official memorandum to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the country, indicating that the State of Qatar considers both the military attaché and the security attaché at the embassy, as well as those working in the attachés, as unwanted persons, and requests that they leave the country within a maximum of 24 hours.
This came during a meeting held today between Ibrahim Yusuf Fakhro, Director of the Protocol Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Iranian ambassador to the country, Ali Saleh Abadi.
The ministry clarified that this decision "comes in light of the repeated Iranian aggressions and the blatant violations of Qatar's sovereignty and security, in gross violation of international law principles, UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and the rules of good neighborliness."
The ministry emphasized that "the continuation of the Iranian side in this hostile approach will be met with Qatar taking additional measures to ensure the protection of its sovereignty, security, and national interests."
The ministry affirmed that the State of Qatar reserves the right to take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security, in accordance with the provisions of international law.
