Man shot dead by federal officers in Minneapolis

SadaNews - Federal officers shot a man and killed him in Minneapolis on Saturday, according to the Department of Homeland Security, which indicated that the man "violently resisted" attempts by the officers to disarm him.

The department stated in a post on the platform "X" that "a (federal) officer fired defensive shots, fearing for his life and the lives of his colleagues. Paramedics on site immediately provided medical assistance to the suspect" who was "pronounced dead at the scene."

The department added that the shooting occurred during an operation "against an undocumented immigrant wanted for committing a violent assault."

This came after a video, whose authenticity has not been verified, circulated showing a person apparently shot during disturbances, with gunfire heard and at least one individual at the scene wearing a vest labeled "Police."

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stated on the platform "X" that he "just spoke with the White House following another horrific shooting carried out by federal officers this morning. Enough is enough in Minnesota. This is disgusting."

He added, "The President must end this operation. Withdraw the thousands of violent and untrained personnel from Minnesota. Now."

Thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been deployed in the Democrat-led city, while President Donald Trump leads a campaign to deport undocumented immigrants across the United States.

Tensions have escalated in Minneapolis since an immigration officer shot and killed Renee Goud, a U.S. citizen, on January 7.

The officer who shot has not been suspended or charged.

Immigration agents also detained a five-year-old child this week during an attempt to arrest his father, sparking widespread outrage.
