Kan: Hamas and the Authority Agree on "Amjad Al-Shawa" to Manage Gaza

SadaNews - The Hebrew channel "Kan" revealed this evening, Sunday, that Amjad Al-Shawa, the head of the network of civil society organizations in Gaza, is the agreed candidate to head the technocratic committee that will manage the affairs of the sector in the upcoming phase.

The channel quoted sources that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority agreed on his appointment during a meeting held in Cairo with the Egyptian intelligence service, while awaiting the confirmation of the decision after the United States approves it.

According to the Hebrew channel, Al-Shawa is viewed as a "comfortable" figure for Hamas, having maintained a balanced relationship with the movement over the years without confronting or publicly criticizing it, as stated.

Information indicates that Hamas actually participated in forming the upcoming technocratic government, selecting about half of its members from figures deemed close to its approach and principles, even if they are not officially part of it. The other half was chosen by the Palestinian Authority, with its awareness and implicit acceptance of Hamas's role in selecting the counterpart part of the composition, according to Kan.

Moreover, sources clarified that the mediators, led by Egypt, presented Hamas with the full list of proposed committee members to ensure its approval and alleviate its fears regarding the composition of the upcoming government in Gaza.

Who is Amjad Al-Shawa?

Amjad Al-Shawa was born in Gaza in 1971 and is considered one of the prominent humanitarian and rights activists in Palestine. He currently holds the position of Deputy Commissioner-General of the Independent Commission for Human Rights (Ombudsman), in addition to his role as the General Director of the Palestinian NGOs Network in the sector.

Al-Shawa is known for his continuous defense of human rights and promoting civil work, and he has wide relations with international and humanitarian institutions, making him - according to observers - a consensus candidate capable of managing the transitional phase in Gaza with local and international understanding.
