Civil Defense: Injuries Due to Toxic Gas Leak at a School in Al-Bireh, Our Teams Controlled the Incident

SadaNews - Civil Defense crews dealt this morning, Wednesday, with a toxic gas leak incident at a school in the city of Al-Bireh in collaboration with the Directorate of Education. This occurred due to the interaction of a basic chemical substance with an acidic substance while disinfecting one of the school facilities, resulting in the emission of toxic gases in the school.

The Civil Defense stated in a statement that the safety systems in the school alerted the school administration, which immediately worked on evacuating the school and contacting the Civil Defense, the Red Crescent, and the emergency response system. They inspected the school facilities and closed them until the concentration of gases could be rechecked after 6 hours, while undertaking all necessary precautions, including dispersing the gases using suction devices and ventilating windows and doors.

It clarified that the incident resulted in the suffocation of two maintenance workers, six students, and a teacher, all of whom are in good condition and were transferred to the hospital for reassurance. The Civil Defense commended the effective and organized response of the security institution, the Red Crescent, and the school administration, which significantly contributed to controlling the situation and preventing it from worsening.

The Civil Defense confirms that the incident has been completely controlled and that all injuries are in good condition, urging citizens to take information from its official source and not to follow rumors that cause panic among the citizens.
