Egypt's Foreign Minister: We are Pushing for a Comprehensive Deal to End the War on Gaza
SadaNews - Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel-Aty, said on Monday that his country, which is leading mediation efforts with Doha and Washington, is pushing for a comprehensive agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
This statement was made by the Egyptian minister during a press conference in Cairo with his Ivorian counterpart, Leon Kaku Adum, who is visiting Cairo.
Abdel-Aty stated that his country "will not cease its mediation efforts and is working with mediators to finalize a ceasefire deal in Gaza."
He added, "We are pushing towards resuming the negotiation process in Gaza, and there is still an opportunity if good intentions are shown and there is a political will to reach a comprehensive agreement to end the war."
He asserted that "Israel is pursuing a policy of extermination in the Gaza Strip and is imposing severe restrictions on the entry of aid" into the besieged Gaza Strip.
He further added that "we are conducting intensive communications with presidential directives with all international partners to warn against the repercussions of the irresponsible Israeli statements and decisions regarding the complete reoccupation of Gaza."
Abdel-Aty's remarks come after a knowledgeable source informed the "Al-Arabi Al-Jadid" website about a visit by a Hamas leadership delegation headed by the movement's leader in Gaza, Khalil Hayya, to Cairo as part of the mediators' efforts to resume indirect negotiations with Israel for a ceasefire agreement in the sector and to finalize a prisoner exchange deal.
The same source mentioned that the negotiation channels between Cairo and Hamas have resumed with Turkish mediation, following a visit by a leadership delegation from the movement to Ankara last week to meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and other officials to discuss the latest developments and efforts to ceasefire in Gaza.
The source indicated that Cairo has shown readiness to receive the Hamas delegation as part of new regional efforts to bridge viewpoints, in light of the complex conditions on the ground and political landscape in the Palestinian arena, amidst regional and international pressures to stop the escalation and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
