Destruction of Bridges.. Casualties in US Airstrikes Targeting Iran, While the Latter Bombs Gulf States and Syria
SadaNews - Seven people were killed in American attacks targeting bridges in the port city of Bandar Khamir in southern Iran, while Iranian media reported hearing the sounds of three explosions in the city of Chabahar in the southeast of the country, marking the latest escalation in military tensions between Washington and Tehran.
According to Reuters, citing the official Iranian news agency IRNA, the US strikes on bridges in Bandar Khamir resulted in the death of seven people, based on data from Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences.
In a separate development, Iranian media reported that three explosions were heard in the city of Chabahar, without immediately announcing the nature of the targets or the extent of the resulting damage.
The official Iranian TV reported that Iran’s Shahre-Kord Airport in southeast Iran was hit "by at least one shell from the American enemy," and a separate report mentioned airstrikes targeting two bridges near the village of Kohoristan and the Shour River in Bandar Khamir County.
These strikes came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the completion of the latest wave of military operations against Iran, marking the sixth consecutive night of US strikes.
CENTCOM stated that US forces used fighter jets, drones, and warships to launch precision munitions that hit dozens of Iranian military targets, including coastal surveillance sites, air defense systems, military logistical infrastructure, and naval capabilities.
The Central Command added that the operations were carried out following directives from US President Donald Trump, aimed at "continuing to weaken Iranian military capabilities" and holding Tehran accountable for attacks targeting commercial vessels in the region.
CENTCOM affirmed that more than 50,000 American troops are currently deployed throughout the Middle East, stating that US forces "remain in a state of full readiness."
Previously, official Iranian media reported that US strikes targeted five bridges in southern Iran, in addition to the IranShahr airport in the southeast, and the railway branch station in Bandar Abbas, as well as sites in Bushehr, Qeshm, Ahvaz, and Kermanshah.
Agencies Tasnim and Fars also reported targeting a communications tower in Bandar Abbas and sites near Sirik, while Iranian authorities have not yet announced a final tally of casualties from the overall strikes.
This escalation comes amid continued military confrontation between the United States and Iran, following the collapse of a memorandum of understanding that temporarily halted fighting, amidst growing fears of the conflict expanding in the region.
Iran responded by targeting sites in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar, as both Bahrain and Kuwait faced early Friday morning incoming fire from Iran.
The Qatari Ministry of Defense announced that its armed forces intercepted an Iranian missile attack early Friday, while the Ministry of Interior reported that a child was injured due to falling debris from the interception operations. The Interior Ministry stated on the "X" platform that the child is receiving necessary medical care.
Iran has intensified its attacks on Gulf states following US strikes targeting its territory, aiming at military facilities used by US forces in the region.
Kuwait, Manama, and Doha have faced successive rounds of gunfire in recent days as a temporary agreement attempting to end the Iranian war collapsed due to fighting triggered by activities in the Strait of Hormuz.
Tasnim news agency quoted the Iranian "Revolutionary Guard" as saying that it attacked an American special operations command center in Al-Tanf, Syria, in retaliation for the deaths of Iranian soldiers in IranShahr.
Reuters was unable to independently verify the report. The "Revolutionary Guard" also stated that Iran maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz, and that no oil or gas will be exported through the waterway as long as US attacks continue.
