White House: Trump Will Not Sign an Agreement with Iran that Does Not Serve America's Interests
SadaNews - On Monday, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump will not sign an agreement with Iran that does not serve America's interests.
Levitt stated in an interview with "Fox News" that President Trump "will never sign an agreement that does not serve the interests of the United States and its national security; he always puts America’s interests first."
She added, "It’s absurd to assume that President Trump would sign an agreement that in any way compares to the disastrous Iranian nuclear deal," referring to the agreement signed by former President Barack Obama.
The spokesperson continued, "The agreement will ensure benefits not only for U.S. national security interests but also for the American people."
On Monday, President Trump stated, "I will do what I must do" if Iran does not adhere to its agreement with Washington.
Trump added to reporters, "If Iran does not comply with its agreement, or if it does not behave appropriately, I will do what I must do."
He continued, "As long as Iran respects us, we will not have any problems."
He pointed out that "the U.S. negotiating team, led by Vance, has done a great job."
Trump emphasized that his country has "eliminated many of Iran's military capabilities," adding, "We have gotten rid of the first, second, and third levels of Iran's leadership."
The U.S. president explained that he is dealing with Iran "in a completely different way than the Democrats."
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said: "The Strait of Hormuz is completely open. The situation is very good in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is doing very well regarding the Strait of Hormuz."
Trump and Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian signed a temporary agreement between Washington and Tehran last week, after more than three months of the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran, which Tehran responded to by launching attacks on Israel and other countries.
Mediators announced on Monday the conclusion of the first round of talks between senior officials from the United States and Iran in Switzerland.
A joint statement issued by the two mediating countries, Qatar and Pakistan, stated that the United States and Iran have agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days.
According to the statement issued by the Qatari Foreign Ministry, technical discussions will continue throughout the rest of the week at the Swiss mountain resort of Bürgenstock.
