Trump: I Am Great at Solving Major Problems, Even with Netanyahu

SadaNews - After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israeli forces will remain in southern Lebanon, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence in his ability to resolve the issue of Israel's unwillingness to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon.

Trump told reporters yesterday evening, "I am great at solving problems, and I solve them very quickly, including with Bibi (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu)."

This statement came after Netanyahu reiterated that Israel does not intend to withdraw its forces from Lebanese territory. In a joint statement with his Defense Minister Israel Katz and the army chief, he said, "Israeli forces will continue to work to neutralize the threats facing soldiers and civilians, demolish terrorist infrastructure, and maintain the security zone in southern Lebanon."

They also stressed that "the security of Israeli citizens and its forces will remain the guiding principle that accepts no compromise."

These statements come at a time when U.S.-Israeli relations are experiencing severe fluctuations, starting from mutual trust in the beginning after their joint attack on Iran to the public disagreements between Trump and Netanyahu about how to end the ongoing four-month war.

Especially since Netanyahu and many Israelis viewed the memorandum of understanding that Trump signed with Iran last Wednesday as "entailing the danger of enabling a state they see as Israel's arch-enemy and restricting their ability to respond to threats from Hezbollah backed by Tehran."
