Three Killed in U.S. Strike on Boat in the Eastern Pacific
SadaNews - The U.S. military attacked a boat suspected of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific late Thursday to Friday, resulting in the deaths of three people, at a time when the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has been waging a months-long campaign against alleged traffickers in Latin America.
This latest strike raises the number of individuals killed in attacks on boats by the U.S. military to at least 211 since the Trump administration began targeting those it describes as "drug terrorists" in early September.
As is the case with most military statements regarding attacks in the eastern Pacific and Caribbean region, U.S. Southern Command stated that it targeted alleged drug traffickers along known smuggling routes, but the military did not provide evidence that the vessel was transporting drugs. A video released on the "X" platform showed a boat moving quickly through the water before being attacked, exploding, and catching fire.
