The City of Paris Grants Honorary Citizenship to Palestinian Civilians and Journalists
SadaNews - On Thursday, the city of Paris granted honorary citizenship to Palestinian civilians and journalists, a step long demanded by a part of the left-wing majority in the French capital council.
The socialist mayor of the capital, Emmanuel Grégoire, stated before the Paris City Council, in the presence of the Palestinian Ambassador Hala Abu Hasira, that "honorary citizenship is not just a symbol, but a commitment to peace. We are extending our hand to an entire people."
He added: "Acknowledging the suffering of the Palestinian people does not erase the suffering of the Israeli people," while being criticized by right-wing politicians for what they consider his "unbalanced" stance that, in their opinion, excludes the Israeli victims of the conflict.
