Mustafa: The President's Decision to Amend the Election Law Represents One of the Important Paths to Strengthen Democratic Life
SadaNews - Prime Minister Dr. Mohamed Mustafa opened the weekly Cabinet session today, Monday, informing the council members about the efforts and movements led by the president at all levels, the latest of which is the issuance of the amended law concerning Law No. (1) of 2007 regarding general elections and its amendments, considering it one of the important paths to activate the Palestinian democratic process, enhance political participation, and expand the base of democratic representation.
Additionally, the Cabinet warned against the escalating terrorist crimes of settlers in various areas of the West Bank, from its south to north, most recently the attacks targeting the towns of Burqa and Deir Debwan yesterday, which resulted in several injuries and property damage. It called on the international community to take responsibility and implement effective punitive measures to stop the settlers' crimes and provide protection to the Palestinian people, especially since these assaults coincide with criminal practices by the occupation forces, the latest of which was the demolition operations in the town of Barta'a, affecting dozens of homes and facilities.
The council also warned of the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip amidst ongoing bloody attacks by the occupation army daily, and the closure of a large number of bread sale points due to a severe shortage of flour, alongside the continued scarcity of medicines and relief supplies and the closing of crossings, exacerbating citizens' suffering and threatening the escalation of the humanitarian disaster. It called on the countries guaranteeing the ceasefire agreement to pressure the occupation to adhere to its commitments, cease its assaults, and open the crossings immediately and sustainably while ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian, relief, and medical assistance to civilians.
In another context, the Cabinet discussed the preparations of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to hold the general secondary exam for about 88,000 male and female students in 46 countries, primarily in the West Bank, Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and Egypt.
Given the ongoing aggression of the occupation against our people in the Gaza Strip and the destruction of the majority of schools, and in light of the unstable conditions, the general secondary exam in the strip will continue to be held electronically for the third consecutive year, especially in light of the accumulated experience over the past two years of conducting more than 100 electronic exams for students in Gaza. In parallel, efforts are underway to enhance fiber internet services in public schools in the West Bank as part of the government's plan to strengthen the digital infrastructure.
The Cabinet also listened to a briefing from the Minister of Health regarding efforts to supply medicines to health centers, and the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Finance and various government bodies to ensure the resumption of supplies alongside working to secure financial resources from partner and donor entities to alleviate the medicine shortage. In this regard, the council approved an increase in the quantities of medicine items for tender No. (23/2025), especially the medicines related to childbirth departments.
Regarding the financial situation and the continued detention of all clearance funds by the occupation, the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance reviewed efforts to secure the disbursement of a salary payment for public employees during the coming week, alongside other commitments towards suppliers, particularly those related to vital sectors, to ensure the continuity of basic services.
Furthermore, the Minister of Finance informed the council of preparations for the pilot launch of the Yabous application early next week for several sectors, followed by the actual launch for various employee sectors shortly after, after ensuring the safety of the pilot launch and addressing any potential technical issues during the trial.
In another context, and in light of the repeated unfortunate incidents of children drowning in some recreational tourism facilities, the Cabinet renewed its directives to the relevant authorities to tighten oversight operations on public safety procedures and ensure compliance with existing laws in this regard, while calling on owners of these facilities to provide the utmost safety and preventive measures.
The council also referred to the president for the adoption of an amended draft law for the electronic government services system, which includes amendments and organization of the roles of the relevant authorities to enhance the efficiency of work and the quality of electronic services, especially in light of the rapid steps being taken to implement the government's digital transformation initiative.
In another matter, the Cabinet approved two cooperation agreements between Palestine and Morocco in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as in the tourism sector.
