Wall Street Journal: American Doubts About the Iranian Proposal

SadaNews - The Wall Street Journal reported, citing American officials, that President Donald Trump and his national security team are skeptical about the Iranian proposal.

The newspaper explained, according to the officials, that Trump did not outright reject Iran's suggestion but expressed doubts about its lack of good faith.

It also mentioned that Trump expressed doubts about Iran's unwillingness to meet his demand to end uranium enrichment.

According to what the officials said and was reported by the Wall Street Journal, "We will continue to negotiate with Iran, and a response and counterproposals are likely to be presented in the coming days."

White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated that President Donald Trump discussed a new Iranian proposal with senior national security advisers on Monday, aimed at reaching a solution to the conflict between the two countries.

Levitt did not express her opinion during a press briefing about the proposal to open the Strait of Hormuz and discuss Iran's nuclear program later, but she confirmed that Trump's basic demands remain unchanged.

Trump wants to open the Strait of Hormuz and for Iran to hand over its stockpile of enriched uranium.

Levitt said, "I can't say they are considering it; all I can say is that there was a discussion this morning, and I don't want to jump ahead of events. You will certainly hear a direct statement from the president on this matter."

The spokesperson had earlier stated that President Donald's administration rejected negotiating with Iran through media channels.

CBS News quoted the spokesperson as saying that the United States would only accept an agreement that prioritizes the interests of the American people, adding that the United States will never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Trump requested negotiations because the United States has not achieved any of its goals, remarking, "We are considering this request."

Trump canceled the visit of his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad to hold talks about ending the conflict, saying that Iran could contact him if it wanted to negotiate.
