11 killed and 19 injured in orphanage fire in Algeria
SadaNews - The Algerian Civil Defense announced today, Thursday, that a fire broke out in an orphanage in a suburb of the capital, Algeria, resulting in at least 11 deaths and 19 injuries.
According to the Algerian News Agency, the Civil Protection Services continue to extinguish the fire that erupted at the Child Rescue Institution located in the Mohammedia municipality of Algiers.
The Civil Defense stated that the initial toll of the victims is 11 dead, whose ages have not been specified. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
The Algerian News Agency clarified that "19 injured individuals were treated and transported, including 10 with varying degrees of burns and two with respiratory distress, as well as seven people in a state of psychological shock. Field teams successfully secured and evacuated five individuals with disabilities and transported them to a safe location.
Algerian national television broadcast footage of Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane visiting the injured at the major burns hospital in Zeralda to check on their conditions.
Algeria has been experiencing a severe heat wave for several days, during which nearly a thousand fires have been recorded in just one week.
