President Abbas Receives the Secretary-General of the Arab League and Discusses the Situation in Palestine

SadaNews - President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas received today, Thursday, at his residence in the Jordanian capital Amman, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy.

During the meeting, they reviewed the latest political and field developments in the Palestinian territories. They also discussed ways to enhance coordination and cooperation between the State of Palestine and the Arab League, and preparations for upcoming Arab responsibilities, which contribute to mobilizing Arab and international support for the Palestinian cause and addressing the challenges targeting Palestinian national rights, foremost among which is ending the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, facilitating aid deliveries, beginning the recovery and reconstruction phase, and the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

They also discussed halting settlement expansion and settler terrorism, as well as the release of Palestinian funds held by Israel.

The president emphasized his pride in the historical role played by the Arab League in supporting the Palestinian cause, appreciating its firm positions and the efforts of Arab countries to uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, leading to their freedom and independence.

He expressed his appreciation for all the humanitarian assistance provided by Arab countries to the Gaza Strip, reiterating the importance of activating the Arab financial safety net in these difficult and exceptional circumstances, in support of the resilience of the Palestinian people.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Arab League confirmed the continued full support of the League for the State of Palestine and its leadership, standing alongside the Palestinian people in facing current challenges, and continuing to work with Arab countries and the international community to support efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace, based on the decisions of international legitimacy.

The meeting was attended by Executive Committee member of the PLO Ziad Abu Amro, the president's diplomatic advisor Majdi Khaldi, and the permanent representative of the State of Palestine to the Arab League, Ambassador Muhannad Al-Akluk.
