Shooting at Jewish Synagogue in the U.S. State of Michigan

SadaNews - The Michigan State Police announced on Thursday that they are aware of a shooting incident at a Jewish synagogue in the West Bloomfield area.

FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on the "X" platform, saying: "FBI personnel are on site with partners in Michigan, dealing with a vehicle crash and shooting incident at the Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township."

The Oakland County Police Chief reported that security personnel at a Jewish synagogue near Detroit engaged with at least one suspect on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

WDIV-TV reported that a truck crashed into the "Temple Israel" in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Oakland County Police Chief Mike Bouchard stated that no one has been arrested yet. Smoke was seen rising from the roof of the synagogue. Footage from the scene shows dozens of police cars surrounding the building, while a source told the Associated Press that the suspect in the synagogue attack was killed.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that police are on the scene of a "vehicle crash and shooting incident" at the synagogue.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office reported that authorities are evacuating the building. About a dozen parents rushed to retrieve their children from a preschool educational center inside the building after obtaining police approval. The West Bloomfield school area was closed.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a statement saying she is monitoring the developments.

The governor stated, "This is heartbreaking. The Jewish community in Michigan should be able to live and practice their faith in peace."

"Temple Israel" defines itself as the largest reform synagogue in the country, with 12,000 members, according to its website. It includes a center for early childhood education and offers educational programs for families and adults.

The website states that the synagogue "is passionate about supporting Jewish communities around the world," and its mission is to "build a cohesive community through the lens of Reform Judaism."

The Jewish Federation of Detroit advised all Jewish organizations in the area to "follow a full lockdown protocol - prohibiting anyone from entering or exiting their buildings."
