Jordan Condemns Ongoing Closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Occupation Authorities

SadaNews - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the continued closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif by the Israeli occupation authorities, preventing worshippers from performing religious rituals there, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. This is considered a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the existing legal and historical status, and the unrestricted freedom of access to places of worship.

The official spokesperson for the ministry, Ambassador Fouad Majali, emphasized the Kingdom's absolute rejection and condemnation of this unlawful and unjustified procedure, as well as the continued provocative measures by the Israeli authorities in the Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif and towards worshippers. He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Majali demanded that Israel, as the occupying power, immediately cease the closure of the doors of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and not obstruct worshippers' access to the mosque, calling on the international community to take a firm international stance that obliges Israel to stop its ongoing violations and unlawful practices towards Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and to respect the sanctity of these sacred places.

He reiterated that the entire area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which measures 144 dunams, is a purely Muslim place of worship and that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, which is affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Sacred Endowments, is the legal entity with exclusive authority over the administration of Al-Haram Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif and organizing access to it.
