Jordan Hotels Association: Sharp Decline in Hotel Occupancy Rates and Cancellations of Tourist Trips

SadaNews - The Jordan Hotels Association stated on Monday that it is closely monitoring the geopolitical developments and the ongoing war in the Middle East, which impose direct repercussions on global travel and tourism movement, the effects of which have begun to clearly reflect on the tourism sector in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The association indicated that the current state of tension and uncertainty in the region has led to a "notable decline" in the number of tourists coming to Jordan, along with recorded cancellations of flights from a large number of global and Arab tourist markets, which has directly reflected on the movement of tourist bookings.

It added that these developments have led to a "sharp decline" in hotel occupancy rates in many tourist destinations in the Kingdom, especially in areas that primarily rely on international tourism, where occupancy rates in some hotels approached very low levels near zero due to the halt in bookings and cancellation of tourism programs.

The Hotels Association clarified that the hotel sector is among the most affected sectors by regional events and political tensions, due to its direct link to international travel and aviation, despite Jordan's high level of security and stability, and its good reputation as a safe tourist destination in the region.

The association affirmed the existence of ongoing cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and relevant authorities, as an emergency room has been established to monitor the developments of the situation on a daily basis, assess their impact on the tourism sector, and take necessary measures to address new developments.

It pointed out that through this joint coordination, efforts are being made to study and establish solutions and measures that contribute to supporting and sustaining the tourism sector, and mitigating the effects of these exceptional circumstances on tourism and hotel facilities and their employees.

The association emphasized the importance of intensifying joint efforts between the public and private sectors to maintain the continuity of tourism facilities' operations and protect investments and jobs related to this vital sector.

The Jordan Hotels Association expressed its confidence in Jordan's ability, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein and its national institutions, to overcome these challenges as it has with many previous crises, expressing hope that the region will witness a near calming that contributes to restoring confidence in travel and tourism movements and the return of tourism activity to its normal state as soon as possible.
