DP World Resumes Operations at Jebel Ali Port in the UAE
SadaNews - DP World announced the resumption of operations at Jebel Ali Port in the UAE, following a temporary suspension of operations as a precautionary measure, according to Reuters.
The company had previously halted operations at all port terminals following a fire that broke out at one of the port's docks due to debris falling from air defense operations targeting Iranian attacks on the country. Jebel Ali is the largest container port in the Middle East and a pivotal trade center for Dubai and the region.
DP World operates in 83 countries and is one of the largest container port operators globally, with the Canadian pension fund "Quebec" being one of its prominent financial partners. It manages the London Gateway in the UK, logistics sites in the United States, and facilities across Africa.
Wider Disruptions in Shipping Chains
The resumption of operations comes at a time when the region is facing increasing logistical disruptions, as major global shipping companies are rerouting their vessels to avoid the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating military tensions.
Additionally, major global shipping companies have suspended bookings or halted transits through the Strait of Hormuz, with some lines imposing additional fees related to war risks, reflecting ongoing pressures on supply chains.
Analysts have warned that rerouting ships and potential port congestion could support spot container prices, given the rising geopolitical risks.
Ship movements, including oil and gas tankers, have also slowed down both inside and outside the Strait of Hormuz, amid navigational warnings to avoid the waterway.
