Likud Dismisses Edelstein Over His Vote on the Sovereignty Law for the West Bank
SadaNews Translation - The Likud party, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, dismissed Yuli Edelstein from his position on the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in the Knesset on Wednesday evening.
This move came because of his vote in favor of the law applying sovereignty over the West Bank, contrary to the party's position, which opposes the bill due to American pressures, as translated by SadaNews.
According to the channel, Edelstein's dismissal is crucial for discussions around the Haredi recruitment law, as he is the only one who knows the law in detail and understands the loopholes that will allow mass evasion.
Likud previously considered the proposal of the bill for a vote in the Knesset by the Yisrael Beiteinu party, led by Avigdor Lieberman, merely another provocation from the opposition aimed at harming relations with the United States and the significant achievements of Israel in the battle.
They said: "We strengthen settlement daily through actions, budgets, construction, and industry—not just words."
The party added, as translated by SadaNews, that true sovereignty will not be achieved through a formal protocol law, but through proper work on the ground and creating the appropriate political conditions for recognition of our sovereignty, as we did in the Golan Heights and in Jerusalem.
A majority in the Knesset committee supported the bill, while Netanyahu attempted yesterday to convince some governmental coalition parties to vote against it to avoid embarrassment in front of the US administration.
