Here are ways to enhance brain power and prevent Alzheimer's

SadaNews - A recent scientific study has identified four methods that can strengthen the mind, enhance cognition, and stimulate brain function, ultimately protecting individuals from cognitive decline and preventing the onset of dementia-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s and others associated with brain performance in advanced age.

A report published on the "Psychology Today" website, which was reviewed by "Al Arabiya.net", cited a recently published research paper that identified four simple and easy strategies that can enhance brain function and prevent diseases associated with it, such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.

The study compared two training programs, where participants (averaging 68 years of age) were randomly assigned to a structured training program and a self-directed one. The training itself included a set of lifestyle changes and activities known from previous research to address cognitive decline.

Scientists say cognitive decline occurs partially due to a lack of physical fitness; specifically, it is linked to heart health. Simply put, the brain needs blood, and without it, brain cells die. The heart's role is to supply this blood, so when a person is physically fit, it gives their heart the best opportunity to fulfill this role.

Researchers in the new study concluded that activating the brain and combating associated diseases can be achieved through the following strategies and methods:

First: Commit to a healthy diet, where the (MIND) website provides comprehensive coverage of the components of this healthy diet, which offers individualized meal plans based on your age, health, and preferences.

Second: Incorporate aerobic and resistance exercises into your day. In the group subjected to the study, participants trained at local gyms; however, the exercises were very simple, with moderate to high intensity and weight-bearing activities.

Third: Play some cognitive games, as the secret with these games lies in maintaining a consistent intellectual diet and finding activities that motivate you, whether they are word games or visual puzzles.

Fourth: Connect with others. These interactions ensure you stay in contact with others and continue to be stimulated. Scientists say that knowing another person is monitoring your progress, or even competing with you, can provide an extra boost of motivation.
