In Numbers.. Hebrew Website: This is the Lowest Prisoner Exchange Deal Since 1985
SadaNews Translation - The Hebrew website Walla revealed that 195 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life in prison will be released as part of the prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.
According to the website, in a report published last night and translated by SadaNews, of the total 150 prisoners, 60 are Hamas activists.
In comparison, in the Gilad Shalit deal of 2011, 450 Hamas activists were released.
It was noted that among the 1700 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip who will be released under the deal, efforts have been made to minimize the number of Hamas activists included, especially those who participated in the October 7 attack, who will not be included in the deal.
According to the website, the Shin Bet security agency has vetoed the release of 25 senior Hamas leaders detained in Israeli prisons whom the movement demanded to be released.
According to the website, the Shin Bet's veto also included preventing the release of approximately 100 Palestinian prisoners, including prominent leaders and activists from Hamas who led its infrastructure, were explosives experts, or participated in very deadly attacks.
The deal did not include any Palestinian prisoners from the Green Line.
SadaNews learned that Hamas exerted pressure to release Palestinian prisoners who carried out attacks and have not yet been sentenced or previously released extremely dangerous prisoners who were recently re-arrested (some of whom were released in the Shalit deal).
The website pointed out that representatives of the Shin Bet succeeded during the negotiations in reducing Hamas's list to the largest possible number of Palestinian prisoners compared to previous deals.
It was mentioned that in the Jibril deal (1985), 3 living Israeli soldiers were released in exchange for 1151 Palestinians, of whom 380 were serving life sentences.
In a deal with Hezbollah (2004), 3 bodies and a former officer were released in exchange for 436 Palestinian, Lebanese, and Arab prisoners.
The Shalit deal (2011) saw him released alive in exchange for the release of 1027 Palestinian prisoners (including 450 members of Hamas), of whom 279 were life sentences.
