The Occupation Closes Streets in Jerusalem Under the Pretext of Jewish Holidays
SadaNews - The Israeli occupation forces closed dozens of vital streets and roads in the occupied city of Jerusalem on Wednesday evening, under the pretext of securing the settlers' processions to celebrate "Yom Kippur," which caused a near-complete paralysis of citizen movement and disrupted their daily lives.
Local sources reported that the occupation police deployed extensive military reinforcements, established checkpoints around the Old City and at the Damascus and Hebron gates, and closed the roads leading to the neighborhoods of Sheikh Jarrah, Al-Mesrara, and Wadi Al-Joz, alongside the deployment of special forces at the gates of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
These measures, the sources added, caused significant disruption to citizens' movement and prevented them from freely accessing their workplaces and centers of life, while settlers were allowed to gather and perform their religious rituals inside and outside the Old City.
The sources confirmed that the occupation consistently exploits Jewish holidays to impose strict closures on the holy city and to tighten restrictions on its Palestinian residents, while providing complete protection to settlers, reflecting a systematic racist policy aimed at Judaizing Jerusalem and imposing new realities on the ground.
The occupation uses Jewish holidays to close roads and impose stringent restrictions on the movement of Palestinians in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, exacerbating their daily hardships and revealing the double standards in freedom of worship and movement, as full facilities are granted to settlers, while citizens are besieged within their cities, villages, and towns.
