One dead and injured in a shooting at a church in Michigan, United States
SadaNews - A man was killed and others were injured on Sunday when a man opened fire in a church affiliated with the Mormon denomination, which also caught fire, in the U.S. state of Michigan.
The police shot the 40-year-old suspect, who is from a neighboring city, without specifying the motives for his actions.
Footage captured at the scene showed emergency responders transporting individuals on stretchers, as well as columns of smoke rising from the church in Grand Blanc.
U.S. President Donald Trump described the attack as "horrific" and wrote on the "Truth Social" platform that it "appears to be another attack targeting Christians in the United States."
Local police chief William Rene told reporters that the suspect drove his car through the front doors of the church and then began shooting at people with an automatic weapon.
He clarified that "hundreds of people were in the church" attending the mass.
According to authorities, the shooter deliberately set the church on fire before being shot by police officers.
Ten injured individuals were transported to the hospital, and one of them later died from their injuries, as explained by the official.
He confirmed that the fire was extinguished, stressing the "possibility of finding more victims."
A woman living next to the church told "France Press": "My husband heard people screaming, and a woman calling for help."
FBI agents were deployed to assist in the investigation, as reported by FBI director Kash Patel.
