Israeli Decision to Revoke His Citizenship.. Death of the Released Prisoner "Maher Younis"

SadaNews: It was announced early this Sunday morning that the released prisoner Maher Abdul Latif Younis has passed away due to a severe health crisis, after nearly three years of his release from Israeli prisons, following 40 years behind bars.

The released prisoner Maher Younis had received, a few weeks ago, an official notification regarding a decision to revoke his Israeli citizenship, based on a decision issued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

As a result, lawyer Khaled Muhajna was commissioned to follow up on the case and file a legal appeal against the decision before the relevant authorities.

Maher Younis was granted his freedom on January 19, 2023, after serving four continuous decades in the occupation's prisons, where he was arrested at the age of 25.

Israeli authorities arrested Younis on January 18, 1983, for resisting the occupation and for belonging to the "Fatah" movement, shortly after the arrest of his cousin, released prisoner Karim Younis, along with their companion Sami Younis, who was released in a prisoner exchange deal in 2011 and was the oldest prisoner at that time, before passing away four years after his release.

Younis underwent severe interrogation following his arrest, and Israeli authorities initially issued a death sentence against him, before reducing it a month later to life imprisonment. In 2012, the life sentence was set to 40 years.

Maher Younis was born on January 6, 1958, in the village of Ara within the 1948 territories. He has five sisters and one brother, and he received his primary and secondary education in his village, then continued his studies at the industrial school in the city of Hadera. During his years of imprisonment, he managed to attain a bachelor's degree in political science.
