Berri: The Framework Agreement Will Not Proceed and Will Not Be Implemented in Its Current Form
SadaNews - The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, said on Monday that the framework agreement signed by his country with Israel under U.S. sponsorship "will not proceed and will not be implemented", considering that it does not safeguard his country's rights.
Berri stated in a statement published by the Amal Movement, which he leads: "This agreement will not proceed and will not be implemented in its current form," adding that it is an agreement of "impositions, not an agreement that safeguards Lebanon's rights".
He added that the most dangerous aspect of the agreement is that it could open the door to strife and division among the Lebanese, to the benefit of the Israeli occupation.
He indicated that confronting this agreement will be within constitutional and national frameworks, clarifying that ministers of the Amal Movement will participate in Cabinet sessions where the agreement is discussed, and they will announce their position from within the institutions.
The agreement particularly stipulates the disarmament of Hezbollah and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territories they have infiltrated in southern Lebanon, and the deployment of the Lebanese army starting from two "trial" areas.
