SadaNews - Israeli media reported on Monday that elite units of the Israeli navy have begun the operation to seize the "Global Resilience Fleet," which set sail on Thursday from Turkey towards the Gaza Strip, noting that the interception operations took place off the coast of Cyprus, hundreds of kilometers away.
A source in the Resilience Fleet stated that 10 ships had been intercepted, while contact was lost with several other ships in the fleet.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently holding an assessment with leaders of the security establishment regarding the fleet.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority stated that Netanyahu will arrive at the naval command headquarters of the Ministry of Defense to follow up on the operation to seize the fleet. The authority quoted a source as saying that the operation to control the ships is proceeding according to plan, and that no exceptional events have occurred so far.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that Tel Aviv will not allow any violation of the maritime blockade imposed on Gaza, urging all participants in the fleet to change their course and return immediately.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the navy has seized several boats and ships participating in the fleet, and continues its control over the remaining ships that refuse to return to their point of origin.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, the specific goal today is to seize the larger ships leading the fleet, numbering 20 vessels.
