Axios: Upcoming US-Iran Negotiation Round Expected in Switzerland Next Week
SadaNews - A source revealed to Axios on Friday that a new round of negotiations between the United States and Iran is expected to take place next week in Switzerland.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of Egypt and Qatar called on Friday for the United States and Iran to return to the negotiating table as part of the memorandum of understanding to end the war in the Middle East, following exchanges of attacks between both parties in recent days.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement that Minister Badr Abdel-Atti and his counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani emphasized during a phone call the "importance of containing tensions and preventing the expansion of the conflict."
The two ministers urged "all parties to prioritize diplomacy and dialogue and return to the negotiating table to work on implementing the memorandum of understanding" signed between them in June, with the aim of reaching a final agreement between the two sides, which would contribute to de-escalation and enhancing regional security and stability.
For its part, the Qatari Foreign Ministry reported that Al Thani stressed the "necessity for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement what has been agreed upon within the framework of the memorandum of understanding," including "ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to maintain the security of the region, preserve the achievements made, and enhance regional stability."
This comes amid a visit by a Qatari delegation to Iran following tensions regarding the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, which included Doha accusing Tehran of targeting one of its tankers, and the exchange of strikes between the United States and the Islamic Republic.
