Trump Jokingly Says Aircraft Carrier Lincoln Will Attack Cuba on Its Return from Iran

SadaNews - During a speech delivered on Friday night to Saturday at the Palm Beach Club nonprofit forum, U.S. President Donald Trump stated: "Cuba has problems. On the way back from Iran, we will have one of the largest aircraft carriers, perhaps the aircraft carrier (USS Abraham Lincoln) - the largest in the world - and we will bring it to anchor about 100 yards from the shore, and they will say: thank you very much. We will surrender to you."

Trump's administration has been actively pressuring the Cuban government for several months to implement radical reforms. Trump has frequently threatened that the United States might take military action against the island to achieve its goals. The White House announced that President Trump imposed new sanctions on high-ranking Cuban officials as part of his administration's efforts to force the ruling regime to relinquish power.

The White House stated in a briefing memo that Trump signed an executive order imposing "new sanctions on entities or individuals or related parties that support the security apparatus of the Cuban regime or collude in government corruption or serious human rights violations," according to Bloomberg News. The memo did not specify the names of the targeted entities included in the sanctions.

The island has suffered from widespread power outages in recent weeks, due to interruptions in the shipments of crude oil and fuel as a result of the blockade.
