A Palestinian and European Source: The Authority Requests Europeans to Renew the Financial Safety Net and Warns of the Collapse of Its Basic Services

SadaNews - A Palestinian and European source informed SadaNews that the European Union countries received an official Palestinian request to renew contributions to the "Emergency Coalition Fund" announced by Saudi Arabia, Spain, France, and Norway during the United Nations General Assembly discussions last year, aimed at supporting the Palestinian budget to counter Israeli measures aimed at undermining the authority by continuing to pirate tax revenues for the second consecutive year.

The source added: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa was the one who presented the request to the Europeans during his participation in the donors' meetings and the International Coalition for the Two-State Solution, which took place in Brussels last week.

The Palestinian request included the need to implement a financial safety net for the government amounting to 200 million dollars per month and warned of the collapse of vital services if the international community fails to pressure Israel to restore the clearance funds.

- The source adds: The Palestinian side has not yet received a response from the European Union and the International Coalition for the Two-State Solution, but the Europeans have not officially declined to meet the Palestinian request.

It is worth mentioning that the Palestinian Authority is suffering from a severe financial crisis, the most difficult since its establishment, due to Israeli deductions from clearance funds, a significant drop in Arab and international support, in addition to a sharp decline in local revenues and taxes, which exacerbates its ability to meet its commitments, including employee salaries.
